Step by step

How to start forex trading in Kenya

Five steps, in the order that keeps you out of trouble.

What Kenyan traders need to open an account

01

National ID or passport

02

selfie with the ID document

Brokers usually also ask for proof of address - utility bill or bank statement. Requirements differ per broker — the account-opening page lists what that firm accepts.

The order that matters

Check the licence before you compare spreads. A tight spread at an unlicensed firm is not a bargain, it is an unsecured loan to a stranger. Then open a demo, trade it for a few weeks at the size you intend to use for real, and only fund an account when your own records show you can follow a plan.

Funding a trading account in Kenya

Rails traders actually use, M-Pesa first.

M-PesaAirtel Moneybank transfercard

Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice. Confirm both in your M-Pesa app and on the broker's funding page before you deposit — we do not republish a fee table we cannot verify on the day you read it.

Trading forex and CFDs on margin carries a high risk of losing more than you deposit. Most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice.
